School Development Day /Pupil Free Day

Just another reminder that our School Development Day has been moved from Wednesday 25th August to Friday 15th October.  This is an important planning day for evaluating this year and in preparation for 2022.

Interhouse Athletics Carnival

The Athletics Carnival is this Friday 27th August. All students are to meet at the town Oval no later than 8.45am.

The weather forecast always tends to be an issue, and we have decided to go ahead with the carnival knowing that we will probably have the possibility of showers in the morning.  There is a significant amount of organisation that goes into a carnival and also the preparation for the Interschool carnival in a couple of weeks after our own carnival.  It is important to emphasise that parents are not to come to the student bay area and, if you need assistance, please discuss this with your child’s teacher.

  • Pre Primary and Kindergarten students will run their usual school program until 11 am. Then Pre-Primary students will come to the town oval. The Kindergarten students will complete their usual program for the rest of the day at school.
  • Buses will run as normal, dropping Kindy and Pre Primary students off at school first then proceeding to the Wongan Hills Sports Complex to drop all year 1 –12 students off.
  • The Carnival will finish at 3.00pm.
  • If you have not placed a lunch order for your child/ren please pack them lunch and snacks.

Students are to wear house shirts, navy bottoms and appropriate footwear. Dress up in house colours - body paint, zinc and hair spray is allowed.

Students will also need to bring a hat, water bottles, sunscreen and warm clothing if weather is cool, or if there is rain. And, most importantly,
A POSITIVE ATTITUDE!

Meckering Cross Country

It was a great day at the Meckering Cross Country last Friday.  Congratulations to our team and to our place getters.  Please see the accompanying article for more details on the day.

I received reports that there was great sportsmanship with everyone on the sidelines cheering our competitors on.  I would like to sincerely thank the parents and community members who supported our school in ensuring that the Meckering Cross Country was a successful event for our students. We could not effectively participate in these events without the support of our school community. Thank you everyone!   A special thank you to Sarah Peters, who is doing a marvellous job organising all of our school sporting carnivals and events.

Celebrating Success

Addison Edmonds has recently been awarded a Rural Scholarship at Perth College for 2022.  This process is very comprehensive with Addison submitting an essay on a specific topic, completing academic testing and a face to face interview with college staff.  We would like to congratulate Addison on her achievement.

Book Fair 2021

Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds!

Book Fair 2021 was celebrated in style with a parade of many characters from Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds in line with the 2021 Book Fair theme.

It was magnificent to see so many students and staff dressed up as their favourite character.

Thank you to the parents who attended the parade and visited the Book Fair during the week. Your support is appreciated.

Meckering Cross Country

It was a glorious sunny day at the 2021 Interschool Cross Country hosted by Meckering Primary School. We had 21 schools compete across 6 race grades. For Wongan, we had a total of 33 students participate to the absolute best of their ability across those races.

Our students showed exemplary behaviour while waiting for their races. They could be seen by every school and spectator showing fantastic sportsmanship by cheering all participants, regardless of their school. It was heartwarming to see and we had a number of compliments about our students.

Overall, both the Primary and Secondary divisions were 10th. A fantastic achievement for our school and our students who worked so hard in their races.

Thanks to Vicki Beard and the staff and volunteers of Meckering PS for all their hard work organising the day. Wongan Hills DHS appreciates all the time that went into organsing the event!

Thank you to Mr Coughlan who drove the bus across for the day and to Mrs Hasson who volunteered her time to watch the students race. Thank you to all the parents and spectators who came across to support our students. Finally, a big thank you to the students who were absolutely amazing in their races. They all represented our school with excellence.
